Design principle DP1: Decentralized, party-independent control of the escrow/payment

Payments should be handled by escrow accounts controlled by no individual entity. The decentralization aspect of blockchain technology effectively handles this design principle: information about escrow accounts in a blockchain is controlled neither by the newsvendor nor by the expert but is instead collectively controlled by a set of independent computational devices, thus enhancing trust.
