Design requirement REQ: Functional artefact requirements for a DLT trading and settlement system

Core technical requirements: (1) manage states of contracts across the securities' lifecycle; (2) identify and verify that users are authorized for their roles; (3) maintain ownership of securities; (4) guarantee ACID execution of compound transactions, specifically delivery-versus-payment; (5) enforce correct attribution and non-repudiability of actions via digital signatures and cryptographic commitments. Contextual requirements and objectives: interoperability with external and legacy systems; settlement finality; support for new financial instruments with high-frequency data dependencies (e.g., carbon-emission monitoring); DLT compliance with well-reasoned regulatory exemptions; full supervisor/regulator access for automated supervision; full transparency and traceability of verification data across the instrument lifecycle; efficient high-volume trading with instantaneous settlement, real-time monitoring and market-abuse detection; and the ability to catalyze structured finance via a domain-specific language for specifying and immediately issuing new instruments.

Trading Green Bonds Using Distributed Ledger Technology

The paper elicits and evaluates the functional artefact requirements of a novel DLT-based trading and settlement system for green bonds, distinguishing core technical requirements from contextual requirements and objectives for regulated, tradeable carbon-credit securities.
